Russian Black Bread

1 1/2 c Water
2 tb Cider vinegar
2 1/2 c Bread flour
1 c Rye flour
1 ts Salt
2 tb Butter or margarine
2 tb Dark corn syrup
1 tb Brown sugar
3 tb Cocoa
1 ts Instant coffee powder
1 tb Caraway seeds
1/4 ts Fennel seeds; (optional)
2 ts Active dry yeast


Place ingredients into the bread machine in order suggested by the manufacturer. Use the whole wheat, regular crust setting.

After the baking cycle ends, remove bread from pan, place on a cake rack, and allow to cool for 1 hour before slicing.

Makes 1 1 1/2 pound loaf
